what if it were you?

before i go on with this post,

here's a lil bit about AIDS.
Acquired ImunoDeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a disease of the human immune system caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). If you get infected with HIV, your body will try to fight the infection. It will make "antibodies," special molecules to fight HIV.

Being HIV-positive, or having HIV disease, is not the same as having AIDS. Many people are HIV-positive but don't get sick for many years. As HIV disease continues, it slowly wears down the immune system. Viruses, parasites, fungi and bacteria that usually don't cause any problems can make you very sick if your immune system is damaged. These are called "opportunistic infections."

You don't actually "get" AIDS. You might get infected with HIV, and later you might develop AIDS. You can get infected with HIV from anyone who's infected, even if they don't look sick and even if they haven't tested HIV-positive yet. The blood, vaginal fluid, semen, and breast milk of people infected with HIV has enough of the virus in it to infect other people. There are no documented cases of HIV being transmitted by tears or saliva, but it is possible to be infected with HIV through oral sex or in rare cases through deep kissing, especially if you have open sores in your mouth or bleeding gums.

There is no cure for AIDS. There are drugs that can slow down the HIV virus, and slow down the damage to your immune system. There is no way to "clear" the HIV out of your body.

If someone you know has HIV, at the very least, don't treat them any differently, show compassion and don't judge. Put yourself in their shoes, what if it were you?

our school had our AIDS week for the first time,
organised by kiren, elisha, shahreen, amar, stephanie and myself.
the PROSTAR club helped out too.

we set up a booth at the canteen today,
and i can honestly say that our campaign was a great success :)

before i go,

i just wanna express my deepest condolences to a certain childhood friend of mine who's dad just passed away. though we aren't as close as we once were, i'd just want you to know that i'm here for you, your friends are all here for you, no matter what. stay strong, for the people around you. we've got your back, alright?

funny how anything can happen, anytime.
it takes just a second.
